Fr Edward Godwin
Parish Priest 1917-1924 

Fourth Parish Priest – A greatly loved teacher.
Edward Godwin came to Longton after six years as a curate in Banbury. A Doctor of Divinity he was a teacher from both Oscott and Cotton. During his seven year stay he completely won the hearts of his congregation of 2,300, especially those of the young.

During his Ministry he:
Visited the schools daily
Enlarged the Baptistry
Erected a memorial to Gregorians killed during World War 1
Commissioned a Stained-Glass Window in memory of Fr Stringfellow
