Fr Joseph Emery
Parish Priest 1924 - 1934 

Fifth Parish Priest and First Dean of Stoke (south).
He was born in Hanley, the son of the town’s first Catholic Mayor. Joseph walked with a limp after a cycling accident. He came parish priest when he was 56 and was very popular because of his good nature and ready sense of humour. He left to become Chaplain of St Augustine’s Home, Cobridge in 1934. He died in Selly Park Convent in 1951 aged 83.

During his Ministry he:
Ran a thriving parish of 4000
Successfully raised Mass attendance, especially that of the children.

Chaired the Committee that organised the Centenary of the Emancipation Pageant that took place on 14th July of that year - a two-mile long procession involving 15 parishes and districts.
Invited the Sisters of the Charity of St Paul to teach in the schools      ​
